Explore Burleigh Heads
from Mondrian Gold Coast
Burleigh Heads moves at its own pace — creative, coastal and genuinely local. Walk straight from a world-class hotel onto one of Australia’s best surf beaches, into ancient rainforest, or down a street of independent boutiques and neighbourhood cafés. This is where the Gold Coast actually lives.
BEACHES & OUTDOORS
Sun, Surf & National Park
Mondrian sits steps from Burleigh Beach, a long patrolled stretch with a world-famous point break that draws surfers from across the country. To the south, Tallebudgera Creek offers something rarer: crystal-clear turquoise water tucked inside the national park, perfect for a morning swim or a paddle before the day begins. The coastal trail through Burleigh Head National Park winds along clifftops above the ocean, one of the best short walks on the entire coast.
sunrise & sunset tip
For sunrise, head to the rocky headland at the southern end of the national park, it faces directly east over the Pacific. Between May and September, humpback whales are a common sight from this spot. At dusk, locals gather on Burleigh Hill for uninterrupted views back over the skyline. Both are a five-minute walk from the hotel.

NEIGHBOURHOOD
Eat, Shop & Explore Burleigh
James Street is Burleigh’s main drag and one of the most genuinely curated shopping strips on the Gold Coast. Independent boutiques, surf brands, homewares and lifestyle stores with a neighbourhood feel that Surfers Paradise simply cannot replicate.
For art and culture, HOTA (Home of the Arts) is a short drive north and hosts exhibitions, live performances and outdoor cinema year-round.
The local Aboriginal cultural centre, fully owned and operated by the Kombumerri community, offers a meaningful and authentic experience worth building into any longer stay.
BEST TIME TO VISIT
Winter (June – August)
The Gold Coast’s finest season — warm, dry days with low humidity. Humpback whale migration adds something genuinely special to headland walks.
Summer (Dec – Feb)
Classic Queensland warmth, the ocean at its best for swimming. Tallebudgera Creek is the place to be on long summer afternoons.
further afield
For guests wanting to explore beyond Burleigh, the Gold Coast rewards it.

Gold Coast Hinterland
Tamborine Mountain and Springbrook National Park — lush rainforest, waterfalls, and cooler temperatures less than an hour from the hotel.

BYRON BAY
90 minutes south. A natural companion to a Mondrian stay — ideal as a long day or overnight trip.

BRISBANE
Around 60 minutes north. Well worth the drive for a city day — cultural precinct, riverside dining and a distinctly relaxed pace.
SEAMLESS JOURNEYS
Burleigh Heads is easy to reach and even easier to get around on foot. The hotel team can assist with all arrival logistics before your stay.
Gold Coast Airport (OOL)
15–20 minutes south by car. The closest and most convenient option for most guests.
Brisbane International Airport (BNE)
Approximately 60 minutes north via the M1. Serves a broader range of international routes.
BMW Premium Transfer
Mondrian’s partnership with BMW Gold Coast offers a premium collection and drop-off service. Pre-arrangement required — contact the hotel team to organise.
By Foot
Burleigh is one of the Gold Coast’s most walkable spots — the beach, national park, James Street and most local dining are all within easy walking distance.
Light Rail (G:link) + New Tram Extension
The Translink network connects Burleigh to the broader Gold Coast corridor. A new tram line extension — due for completion this year — will link Burleigh Heads directly northward, making car-free coastal exploration easier than ever.
